FACES for the Future Success Stories

Sonja Denise Washington

Sonja Denise Washington

My name is Sonja Denise Washington and I was a member of the inaugural FACES class and graduated from the program in 2003. I attended Skyline High School for all four years.

Shortly before graduating high school I applied to UC Riverside where I was accepted and completed my undergraduate work. Two years after graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology I was finally able to complete all of my science prerequisites for a science program. I have always been interested in working in the medical field and I knew that I was destined to be in this field.

In 2010 I applied to Touro University in Vallejo, CA for their Master's of Physician Assistant/Public Health Program. In January of this year I was notified of my acceptance into the Master's program for Touro University. I have come a long way with completing all of my classes and staying true to my dream and now my dreams are really real. I knew that my calling would be possible some day but I didn't know exactly when. I am so happy to be entering the program this August 2011 and will be a full time student.

My husband and baby son as well as close family coached me, and I am so happy they did and supported me faithfully through this journey. Thanks a lot to the FACES program; you all have helped me tremendously. I am so grateful to have been a part of a program that opened my eyes to the different areas of the hospital and where I would soon fit in. Again this is a joy and blessing from God for me to be entering this MPA/MPH program and I appreciate all the help and mentoring received.
