History

FACES San Diego

FACES-San Diego is imbedded in Hoover High School's Health and Healthier Communities Academy. This allows for a unique opportunity for FACES staff to easily team up with school teachers, counselors and staff enabling FACES and the school to really wrap around the FACES students' academic, behavioral and interpersonal progress. This past year, a component that FACES San Diego has focused on is bringing in the element of a community internship for each student as well as the hospital rotations. This allows students to practice their skills and gain knowledge in their own community, realize any existing disparities, hopefully fostering a desire to return to work within their community after they finish their education.

Student Services Coordinator

Sheila Kubota

Sheila Kubota attended the University of California, San Diego and obtained her bachelor's degree in Communication. She then lived in Quito, Ecuador for 6 months, teaching English and immersing herself in the Spanish language and culture of Ecuador. There, she discovered that her true calling was in the field of social work and she came back to San Diego to attend San Diego State University where she completed her master's degree in Social Work. Sheila then worked for the County of San Diego's Child Protective Services as a Court Intervention Worker. Luckily, Sheila was able to join the FACES team as a Student Services Coordinator and has never been happier! Sheila absolutely loves applying her social work skills to the FACES program in her collaboration with the students, hospital clinicians, community partners and the greater FACES team across California. In working with FACES, Sheila has finally been able to say, "I love my job!"
